Job Description

Trinity College Cambridge is seeking to appoint a Head of Estates on a 12-month fixed term contract basis to lead a review and transformation programme of the existing maintenance (works) function.

Trinity College, University of Cambridge was founded by Henry VIII in 1546 and is the largest of the Cambridge colleges. Since then Trinity has flourished and grown, and is now a home to around 700 undergraduates, 400 graduates, 190 Fellows and 350 staff. Princes, spies, poets and prime-ministers have all been taught here, and members of the College go on to a very wide range of professions and careers after taking degrees in all the subjects the University offers.

Trinity has a high-footfall and technically complex estate portfolio with a considerable proportion of the estate being listed and conversation status. The College is seeking to appoint a Head of Estates (Clerk of Works) to lead a review and transformation programme of the existing maintenance (works) function. Current activities span planned, cyclical and reactive works as well as conservation and compliance projects. You will be tasked with reviewing current internal maintenance team processes and activities as well as the process for procuring and managing external contractors.

We are seeking an individual that has worked in a Building Surveying, Estates Management or Maintenance Management role across a technically complex buildings portfolio preferably with a heritage/conservation element. Prior experience of managing an in-house team to deliver planned and reactive maintenance as well as specialist maintenance activities procured via external contractors is essential as is a track record of leading change resulting in performance improvement of an estates maintenance function.

This role offers an opportunity to work for one of the more historic and prestigious education estate portfolios in the UK. The successful candidate can enjoy working in beautiful surroundings and within magnificent buildings which include the Great Court and Nevile's Court, with the College Library designed by Sir Christopher Wren. Staff benefits include a generous pension scheme, private healthcare, free lunch provision as well as access to the many recreational facilities that the College benefits from.
